Dr. Wei-Li Gu graduated from Shanghai First Medical College in 1983, and has worked in the Shanghai Chest Hospital ever since. In his twenty-five years of tenure, Dr. Gu has performed more than 3,000 cardiac surgeries. He specializes in valve replacement, aortic surgery, and all kinds of complex congenital heart diseases. Since he started using the autologous blood transfusion technique, Dr. Gu has conducted 500 cases including valve replacement and congenital heart defects corrective surgeries without having to give blood during the surgery, reducing the risk of blood transmitted diseases and immunosuppressive effect related to homologous blood.
Academic Achievement
Dr. Gu has written many reference books and medical journals, such as “Use of Intra-aortic Balloon Pump in Cardiac Surgery”, “Surgical Treatment of Severe Mitral Valve Diseases”, “Redo Mitral Valve Replacement via Right Thoracotomy”, “Heart Tumor”, and many more. He won the prestigious Shanghai Clinical Medicine Award in 1997 in recognition of his contributions as a member of the Homologous Heart Transplant Team.
