It’s Never too Late to Start Being Healthy
Feb 13, 2008. You are never too old to reap the benefits of a healthy life style.
Researchers in the United States have found that doing things such as exercising and not smoking at the age of 70 greatly raises one’s chances of living to be 90.
Research found those who exercised two to four times per week, did not smoke, maintained normal body weight and blood pressure and avoided diabetes had a 54-percent chance of living to 90.
Doing any one or combination of the above was also beneficial.
Doing none of these things had only a four percent chance of reaching 90.
The message about adopting a healthy lifestyle was commonly aimed at middle-aged people, so this news is helpful to see that such lifestyle factors could also help the elderly add healthy years.
Recent research in Britain showed that people who exercised, avoided smoking, drank moderately and ate lots of fruit and vegetables lived 14 years longer on average than people who did none of these things.
